We are an association founded to assist practices in reducing costs. Our goal is to increase profitability of non-hospital owned practices in order to help them survive and thrive.
Our strength in numbers is beneficial when negotiating with companies to obtain favorably priced products and services. At no cost we simply pass those savings off to physician practices.
Joining the association is similar to joining many other associations such as your local medical association, auto asociation or even AARP. You can enjoy all the benefits of joining a large association without members being legally bound together.

History

The American Independent Physician Association was founded as a small, approved risk purchasing group in order to help practices reduce overhead by providing discounted liability insurance to its members. Basically, individual practices could purchase insurance at group rates via the risk purchasing group. The Association used an experienced, licensed firm (Physicians Insurance) to manage and negotiate on its behalf in order to obtain and provide discounted professional liability insurance policies to its members. As a result, practices receive pricing and terms on their policies that they may never have received on their own or through their broker. Due to the success rate of delivering cost effective alternatives to its members, growth of the medical malpractice insurance program exceeded all expectations and our program was called upon to help practices in various states. As a result of the success, the insurance management arm rebranded as AMERIPA Insurance in order to offer its insurance services and discounted policies not only to association members, but to all physician practices regardless of size or association membership. AMERIPA's management team has been the backbone of our program. They have been providing professional liability insurance policies for physician practices since the 1980's and they are the driving force behind the success of our professional liability insurance program.

Management

Patrick Lawn of Physicians Insurance Consultants, Inc. (Philadelphia, PA) is our Professional Liability Director.-Pat has handled the med mal needs of thousands of physicians, practices and other health care professionals for over 35 years. Over that time, he has firmly established himself and his brokerage Physicians Insurance Consultants, Inc. as the most dependable and trustworthy names in the medical malpractice insurance marketplace.-In an age of agency mergers and acquisitions, he has chosen to remain an independent broker/agency as he feels practices are better served by PIC's personal attentiveness to pricing and service that large national agencies do not provide for their clients.-Pat has has spoken at numerous medical conferences, medical staff meetings and county medical societies regarding risk management and insurance. He has been instrumental in not only attracting insurance cariers to states, but also in the formation of medical malpractice insurance carriers, risk purchasing groups and physician associations in order to provide practices with cost effective alternatives.-Pat was born and raised in Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the University of Delaware.-As an advocate for pediatric cancer awareness and research, Pat, along with his wife and three children host annual blood and bone marrow donor drives in memory their oldest child and sibling, PJ, who passed away in 2013 after a courageous seven year battle with leukemia. The blood drive is among the largest in the Philadelphia area and the bone marrow donor drive has successfully matched donors with recipients whose lives have been saved by bone marrow transplants. His family also hosts a team every year in CHOP's Parkway Run in order to raise money for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and pediatric cancer research.

The AIPA does not profit or accept financial considerations from any company whose products and/or services we recommend. The AIPA does not charge dues or membership fees unless a member chooses to accept an offer of products or services to our "risk purchasing group" members. At that time the member will be given the option to pay a "risk purchasing group" membership fee of $50 in order to take advantage of that particular offer. The minimal one time fee covers paperwork and/or postage related to the products or services provided.
