Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: If I have a claims made policy do I have to purchase a "tail" from my current carrier? A: No, we will ensure that we use the same retroactive date as you have under your current policy. A "tail" would not have to be purchased as your "prior acts" will be covered under the new policy as long as they occurred after the retroactive date listed on your policy.
- Q: Can I get a free "tail" when I retire? A: Yes. Our insured physicians over 50 years of age who have had continuous claims made coverage will receive a free tail upon retirement as long as they have been insured through us for one full year.
- Q: Can you insure my professional employees? A: Yes. We can provide coverage for allied healthcare providers such as Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners at extremely competitive pricing.
- Q: Is AMERIPA an insurance company? A: No. AMERIPA is an insurance management arm. AMERIPA utilizes its purchasing power to negotiate favorable pricing with insurance carriers to secure more cost effective policies for independent practices. Our fully licensed team works with practices to manage applications, renewals, policy issuance, certificates, claims reporting and much more.
- Q: If I join AMERIPA to take advantage of their pricing, will my policy be a group policy with all the other members? A: No. Every physician or practice is individually underwritten and receives their own policy. Other association practices and policies, including their claims experience, do not affect your individual or practice policy.
- Q: Do I have to join the American Independent Physician Association to take advantage of AMERIPA's excellent policy prices? A: No. However, by joining the association you may be eligible to receive a larger discount off of the rates depending upon the insurance carrier or state you practice in.
WE'RE HERE FOR YOU
OUR HISTORY
The American Independent Physician Association was founded as a small, approved risk purchasing group in order to help practices reduce overhead by providing discounted liability insurance to its members. Basically, individual practices could purchase insurance at group rates via the risk purchasing group. The Association used an experienced, licensed firm (Physicians Insurance) to manage and negotiate on its behalf in order to obtain and provide discounted professional liability insurance policies to its members. As a result, practices receive pricing and terms on their policies that they may never have received on their own or through their broker.
Due to the success rate of delivering cost effective alternatives to its members, growth of the medical malpractice insurance program exceeded all expectations and our program was called upon to help practices in various states. As a result of the success, the insurance management arm rebranded as AMERIPA Insurance in order to offer its insurance services and discounted policies not only to association members, but to all physician practices regardless of size or association membership.
AMERIPA's management team has been the backbone of our program. They have been providing professional liability insurance policies for physician practices since the 1980's and they are the driving force behind the success of our professional liability insurance program.
